Computer science professionals work with programming, data structures, and the mathematics behind computing. Because this field covers a wide swath of topics that may be only tangentially related, nearly all computer science students and professionals chose one or two areas of specialization to develop their skills, like software engineering, theory and research, web design, and information systems management.

Note that students commonly specialize in more than one area of computer science. While doing so may extend the time you spend in college by a semester, you will be a more desirable job candidate if you have more than one area of expertise to show employers.
